Is this even possible? The PEAR installer won't necessarily be using php-gtk itself (command-line installer installing gtk packages, for instance).

Personally, I'd like to see PHP-GTK 2 as a PECL package eventually, but that isn't my decision to make. If it were a PECL package, I think it would be easy to check if it has been installed and create the correct dependency tag: <dependencies> <package>

    <name>PHP_GTK</name>
    <channel>pecl.php.net</channel>
    <min>2.0.0</min>
