Hi all!
I found some time to put a little effort into this. Since I recieve all
trackback emails additionally to the maintainer currently (for exactly
the purpose of tracking the trackback spam), it seems we have at least
lowered the spamming drastically for now. The following mechanisms in
place (in this order):
- Only 3 posts per host in 30 minutes.
- Matching against a bad word list, maintained hardcoded in CVS.
- DNSBL check
- SURBL check
I enhanced the bad word list filter by common spam words I found on
PEARWeb and patched the code to decode submitted HTML entities. So far
it seems to work well. Let's see, how it turns out.
Unapproved trackbacks will now be automatically deleted after 2 weeks.
I will commit some of the changes to Services_Trackback, soon.
Cheers,
Toby
