With the new Query2XML that just got accepted, and by using XML_RPC or Services_Webservice package to create the web service (server), putting together a web service frontend to a database (using an MDB2 object for instance) shouldn't be that hard. A driver for such webservice could be added to MDB2.Why Query2XML ? Can't XML_RPC (or Services_Webservice) properly send back what's returned by the methods called on the server ?
That won't be blazzing fast, but should be very reusable...Sometimes you need something to happen once a day, not 1000 times a second...
There are certainly a lot of different approaches to the topic though, so it is often best to stick with (defacto) standards.IIRC, there is something called REST for communications similar to pop/imap over HTTP. But I don't know where to find a standard for SQL communications over HTTP... There is one thing to consider with a such driver : it would actually be a MDB2 driver for... MDB2 ;-) Indeed, all of "real" MDB2 drivers would need to reside on the server. I don't how the DSN would look like : - rpc-mysql://user:password@host/database - http://user:password@mysql:host/database - etc... -- og
