Hi,

If anyone has been following internals Mailing list, you may have noticed a discussion about static method calls. basically in PHP6As I like to keep an eye (and work on) on PHP6, it is premature to take decisions now about what can be php6. This version is 2-3 years away from a first stable release. I would appreciate to do not waste too much time on some FUDs common in all development phase of PHP. We have enough to worry about the upcoming 5.2. As a side note, I'm not going to argue about any breakage in php 6.x. Major versions allow them. Howver I will try to do not have a php version of java, that's a sure thing.
While It's not 100% certain that it's going to be changed, there are a few objections on internals, It may be time to think about PEAR2 as a alpha, tidied up for PHP5/6...Work on a php5.1+ version of pear is already planed, it will start after 1.6 (see below). Please, discuss or post suggestions in the pear-core list.
We havent seen anyone jump up and down volunteering to take over PEAR[2] yet, and at most I would only volunteer just making it work with PHP5/6, not re-writing the error engine.. - So If you are interested, now may be a good time to shout and make your opinion heard...The current priority is pear 1.5 (cvs/pear-core HEAD), we need more regular testers, the pecl changes require a lot of tests as well as the new features. Then will come 1.6 with some some long awaited additions (mostly pecl and packages with different branches). If you like to follow the installer developments, please read the pear-core mailing list and pear-qa for the call for tests. Cheers, --Pierre
