Hi, I think it is a mistake. Look at the stats of the stable version, over 1000 downloads a month. One very important thing to remember is that the installer looks at "stable" packages by default. Many people do not know the feature to change the preferred state is there and many will not even touch a package that is mark as beta or less unless for playing. Added to that is the fact that, if you're lucky, 1 out 10 people will actually give you feedback. What it does show though is that it may be a good idea to have a section on pearweb showing packages in need of feedback. i think this would go beyond the beta status, i'm think more in terms of RC that specifically require feedback. A mail sent to the list with packages would help as well. All in all I'd say PFM fares pretty well, as Mark said it does have a smaller audience then say Auth. Arnaud. Laurent Laville wrote:
Hi all, With statistics back on pear website, I was confronted to the hard reality : a lack of interest to PEAR_PackageFileManager 1.6.0 First, we can now see [1] how few people get the pretty stable version even if it's under beta state. Average 250 downloads/month. Compare to another package [2], I used myself, in same case, but with a better popularity (1000 downloads/month): Structures_Datagrid 0.7.1 Second, a lack of feedback / comments / tests about the new beta 5 available on pear cvs repository since Oct 6. Remember my first post on this mailing list on Oct 6, and second 6 days later. I will not publish the new release (1.6.0b5) on PEAR website today, and you've certainly already understood, no draft of the User Guide, on my website. Even if I will finish the guide I've begun to write few days ago (for myself first), consider me as a pseudo-inactive leader on this package. regards Laurent Laville [1] http://pear.php.net/package-stats.php?cid=19&pid=227&rid=3476 [2] http://pear.php.net/package-stats.php?cid=27&pid=306&rid=3362
