Point taken that this problem right now is inside PEAR code, but as I
see it - none of the PHP4 code will now work on my system.
That includes all the infamous calls to PEAR::isError().
I got the impression that "this was taken care of" and it had been
decided to move this into E_STRICT, but apparently now it's E_FATAL.
I really agree that a lot of code needs to be updated and brought up
to date etc. but I am no longer sure how I can advocate moving to PHP5
if it breaks so much code in a 5.x release and leaves people with no
joice but a rollback. Especially since I am somewhat sure that I
tested similar stuff before and it did not do this?
Myself I host a dozen Mambo/Joomla installations (Yeah, I am not a
huge fan but people still use them.) which are now all broken. I
thought that this had been discussed before (especially on internals,
as well as on pear-dev) that "we" wanted to avoid such a thing in PHP
and rather break it all in PHP6. This is not even 5.3. But 5.2.5 - and
I almost sure that I have a 5.2.5 which I built two months ago which
doesn't have the issues.
Thoughts?
