I didn't see this at first, but this is a static call to the constructor which has not been possible since 5.0.0. At least various people on IRC tried and confirmed that it had not been working. I didn't see this earlier and *ass*umed =( that all static calls (without the proper visibility) were broken. Anyway - I still think this is subject to E_STRICT to alert developers of the problem and not a good fit for to E_FATAL (yet). I had to patch 30+ websites (Mambo, Joomla, Drupal, ...) over the weekend to get rid off this error and I guess this is also one of the reason why I panic'd. ;-) Till
