Curl and the HTTP extension give use extra features like having multiple inflight http requestsThat can be done manually with sockets, I think. Only it is a lot harder. A couple of other reasons: * We have a feature request for cURL support * cURL extension API is extremely ugly and lacks in documentation I don't really care about HTTP extension, since that is itself an OO wrapper around cURL.
