AFAIK go-pear uses:
1) /bin/sh, and this file on linux/gnu system is the part of bash package
% rpm -qf /bin/sh
bash-x.xx-xx
2) constructions that is specific to bash shell (man bash)
e.g. $(cmd) does not work in tcsh, csh nor sunos's sh
