All of my systems are 1280x800 or higher resolution. I personally hate the
80 character limit and is the cause of many worthless phpcs warnings that
aren't worth a thing. I write good code and factor my expressions, but as
Daniel said long regexes and ALL_THIS_NAMESPACE_CRAP causes some code to
just get long.
The team of developers I work with won't touch anything PEAR related because
of some of these coding standards, and the 80 character line limit was one
of them. After making a somewhat complex PEAR1 package I can't believe this
line character limit exists! Others on the list and in #pear have flat out
told me "there is no way" to make most things any shorter. Considering I
have class names like Services_Shipping_Driver_UPS, something will be
getting barked at.
In all honesty the 80 char limit would seem to fit better in PEAR2 and
should be removed from PEAR1.
Cheers,
Kristopher Ives
