Thanks a lot Helgi for this :) Doing my job!! :D haha just wanted to
say, that I have also been a mentor for the past 2 years and it is
great to mentor students that are interested in developing open source
for money.
That's right, I just said it, developing open source stuff for money.
Any student that successfully completes his project gets about 4-5K
(Dollars) for the summer of work, and all of that is given to the open
source community. This is considered a fulltime job so if you would
like to apply please bare in mind that this is serious. It's a job :)
There is a midterm evaluation, there are goals that have to be met but
it's also a good craic with the other people from the community and
your mentor will usually introduce you to many other open source
developers either from PEAR, PECL, or PHP directly depending on which
modules you'll be working on.
Anyways, we are looking at new ideas as Scott and Helgi pointed out
and if you are too shy to come out in public you can direct the
requests to either myself or Helgi. We'll be glad to either add them
to the wiki or discuss the implications of the ideas themselves.
Once again we have a chance to get some important sections of PEAR
worked on and I believe this year is going to be a great one for PEAR
(With the quickly approaching PEAR2 & Pyrus, and with another GSoC to
help us improve our already sterling product).
I really am looking forward in seeing ideas coming from the great
Rosaceae [1] and I believe that we can show the world just yet once
again how good we are at PEAR :)
Keep em comin'!
