I did it already and it failed on my expectations, because it requires me to upgrade my PHP. Thought the whole process of installing PEAR from that link is very useful and very easy. If there is anyone trying to update their Pear, I suggest update first their PHP to 4.40 or later before updating the Pear.
Thanks Till for the info. I hope this info will save time for all others trying to update their pear from ancient version.
Thanks,
Ding
