Hi Stelian,
Thanks for your interest in PEAR maintainership!
I must point out if you're considering using I18Nv2 in a project, the
PHP Internationalization extension might be a better fit:
http://php.net/intl. It's available for PHP versions 5.2 and
up and is
faster, and perhaps more comprehensive than I18Nv2 will ever be.
If you're still interested in I18Nv2, you can definitely become a
maintainer. Maintainership would involve:
* fixing reported bugs on the package
* writing and maintaining unit tests
* general code maintennance, formatting, documentation, etc.
* writing end user documentation
* implementing new features
* releasing packages when bugs are fixed or features are implemented
To maintain a PEAR package, you'll need to know PHP fairly well and be
able to conform to the PEAR coding conventions
(http://pear.php.net/manual/en/standards.php). If, during
maintainership, you have questions, it is always appropriate to ask them
on pear-dev or on efnet IRC in #pear.
If you're not really interested in the I18Nv2 package and just want to
become a maintainer of a PEAR package, there are many packages you could
help with. We'd be delighted to have help with any of them.
Once you've chosen a package you will also need a PEAR account from
http://pear.php.net/account-request-existingpackage.php.
Once your PEAR
account is created, we'll help you get an SVN account from php.net.
So, let us know (on pear-dev) if you're still interested in maintaining
a package, and we'll hook you up.
Cheers,
Mike
