Hey Chuck, I just noticed http://pear.php.net/package/Text_Diff/<http://pear.php.net/package/Text_Diff/redirected> got deprecated for Horde_Text_Diff. There's a few others that particularly you and Jan have been involved in that are in PEAR; and now have younger, better loved versions in Horde. Am I right in assuming a lot of these are largely PHP5 ports of existing APIs, with added test coverage (woo: jenkins @ http://ci.horde.org/)?
Yes
IE: Horde_Log looks to be a drop in replacement for Log.
Not quite. Log is an exceptions as it is still maintained by Jon Parise. Horde_Log is rewritten from scratch.
If so; can you guys perhaps give us non horde folks a quick walkthrough of what you are doing with the old packages; advice on people upgrading/migrating, etc?
I'm not sure what you mean. Those packages that have a PHP5 replacement on pear.horde.org can usually be used without many further changes (class name renaming mostly).
If there's anything else we can do to encourage migration from older; less maintained components; we'd love to know.
Besides that the old packages are no longer maintained? :) I guess that's the best encouragement. ;)
