PEAR needs to be able to work without having the libraries in the include path (since it is not possible to modify this setting at runtime). Sorry, but that's simply wrong:Unless your host runs PHP in safe_mode, when this is not allowed. And a surprising number of hosts do use safe_mode... which I why I do not use PEAR in sendcard - to have the dependency on PEAR which is not available on 40% + of hosts would: a) cut down on the number of people who could use the script b) inundate me with support requests as newbies can't get it to work If these problems could be overcome then I'd use it. Also, people still seem to feel that PEAR-DB is slooooow, and this needs to be overcome before big projects will start using it - look at the number going with ADODB just because of a slight speed increase (only 0.003s over PEAR when you include class compliation time) and the *brilliant* advertising. There was an interesting thread on this topic on the phplib-users mailing list starting 6 May 2002. I would have provided a link, but I cannot find it in TheAimsGroup's archive :-( Peter. ---oOo--- sendcard - The free PHP e-card solution http://www.sendcard.org
