It was from the same script, first testing PEAR then PHPlib with the
same query on the same DB.

Done. This time I get :
PEAR : 90
PHPlib : 155
I guess you were right about PHPlib reusing the first connection.

When run separetly, this gives :
PEAR : 240
PHPlib : 163
Done without restarting the server.
The difference is not as big as it was in my first test.
