i am much closer now. this worked for download:
C:\php>lynx -source http://pear.php.net/go-pear >
go-pear
C:\php>php -d output_buffering=0 -q go-pear
... maybe, this would be nice to have in the docs too.
on the other hand, there is still a problem with c:\php4;
the pear.ini file and the test files get still installed
in that directory. i have proposed a solution for that
earlier ago http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=17516.
