So here is my suggestion: 1. create a simply OpenOffice-template and an example document, which can be used to write documentations in 2. since OpenOffice documents are saved in XML it should be possible to convert them to DocBook
The problem with this WYSIWYG: You can not really predict the result of the generated XML (DocBook) code - but this is one of the requirements for the manual. This is important to have easy access to the manual, esp. for automatic access, like IDEs do it.
If you define to use Headings, and certain styles for code-pieces, etc, then it should be possible. That's why i meant to provide example documents. I dont really have no idea of the XML-structure of OpenOffice but i had to look at it, to find out. I made a simple text document, with a ------------------------------ 'Heading 1' text below
    'Heading 2'
also text below ------------------------------- and the resulting xml seems 'predictable'. i know its not very complex, but it shows that the outcome wont be 'unpredictable', or am i wrong? <text:h text:style-name="Heading 1" text:level="1">
    Headline 1
</text:h> <text:p text:style-name="Text body">
    Hi i am a text under Headline 1 :-)
</text:p> <text:h text:style-name="Heading 2" text:level="2">
    Headline 2
</text:h> <text:p text:style-name="Text body">
And i am text under Headline 2
