I was following this discussion now already a while and want to give my 2 cents too. Since i was also thinking a lot about how to write the documentation for the PEAR-code i wrote and when to learn DocBook, which for me is no option currently, since i dont have the time for it. So here is my suggestion: 1. create a simply OpenOffice-template and an example document, which can be used to write documentations in 2. since OpenOffice documents are saved in XML it should be possible to convert them to DocBook This way documentation is as easy as writing a text-document, since it is one :-) I am currently writing a documentation for one of my projects in OpenOffice, may be that can be a way to do it. that's what it looks like http://wolfram.kriesing.de/SimpleTemplate/SimpleTemplate.pdf the OpenOffice document http://wolfram.kriesing.de/SimpleTemplate/SimpleTemplate.sxw (can be used as a first template, no prob) regards Wolfram Alan Knowles wrote:
Yeah - i dont really like it that much - which is why phpdoc @stuff would be a bit better.. -- perhaps the introduction/summary/section stuff should be outside the class anyway.. I dont think it would be as bad when it gets down to the method documentation.. - although i'll see what happens.. as far as I can see 1) if it works - it will save alot of effort 2) if it doesnt - (a) we know not to try it again, (b) there's some code to build on if someone can come up with a better idea regards alan Martin Jansen wrote:

Honestly, don't you think that this makes the API documentation very hard to read? Most time when debugging/developing code I don't use the nice HTML output of PHPDoc but the inline comments in the PHP code to understand how the code works. Your new style IMO makes it a magnitude harder to read and understand the documentation ;-).
