This is how rpm finds and adds the SONAME dependencies to packages. > I agree that it's a problem to have different installed package > databases, but we really encourage distrib packagers to use the pear > script or at least the php4/pear/PEAR/* libs for it. > 3) The RPM package should only contain the sources from the tgz (or a > tar if you consider CPIO enough :-) downloaded from the web and in the > .spec just a "pear install -s package.(xml|tar)" I have been working on trying to make a php-4.3.0-dev RPM, along with some pear module RPMS. The main problem that I have run into is that install-pear.php and /usr/bin/pear don't have a way to take an INSTALL_ROOT/DESTDIR, to allow the installation to happen into a build root. This breaks the PHP build currently, as doing 'make install INSTALL_ROOT=/var/tmp/php-4.3.0-root' has errors when trying to install PEAR. Additionally, I don't see a way to pass PEAR an option to set the INSTALL_ROOT, which is necessary if I am to use it in the spec file. Thanks. Peter
