Hello,

There are GPL'ed PECL modules? Hrm, so there is. I don't think we can allow those. I am aware of the clause in the manual, but it was written mostly for the PEAR stuff. I did add a GPL warning in there a while ago. But the problem here is that the act of linking a GPL'ed library into both Apache and PHP violates the GPL. At least that is the view of the FSF. I don't really agree with that. You are correct that distributing the source code only through PEAR is not a direct violation, but I think we are splitting hairs as that code can not be used without violating the license.Used or redistributed? Anyway, isn't that a problem only of whoever uses these modules? AFAIK, it is not the PHP Group that is violating any license. PHP and PECL modules are made available separately not together. Given that and since I think it should only up to the author to enforce the license, I believe you are loosing your hair for somebody else. To be fair, you may state in the documentation that modules with GPL code can only be used together with PHP if the permission is obtained from the author for doing such kind of linking and you are passing the ball to the end PHP users. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos
