I think soemthing like that would also be what I need for a knowledge
database module. The idea would be to have the user define what data he
wants to store (number of fields, field name and field type, range of
the allowed values, default values) and then the interface for adding,
editing and searching is automatically generated on demand.
But I think it makes the most sense to store the metadata about range
etc in a table.
This could also be nice in combination with liveuser allowing the
creator of a knowledge database to specify who may read/write what
fields etc.
