It looks like the problems are caused by some weird interaction
between Archive_Tar and the PEAR installer. I guess the easiest way
would be to gzip the .tar files and add them to CVS, as Jon already
pointed out.
I will *try* to fix the problem 'til Saturday, but for the short term
the above solution is the best IMO.
