Greetings, Thanks for your quick response. I've got 4.3.4 installed. It already has a pear folder with the tarred up contents of the "base install" in it. There is a go-pear.bat file in the \php folder and a go-pear.php in thr \php\pear folder, along with the go-pear-bundle folder which contains the tarred contents of the base install. The \php\go-pear.bat and \php\pear\go-pear.php files appear to go on-line to download the "base install" for pear. Is this right? and if so, why does it not use what's already included in the go-pear-bundle folder. Should I just use the go-pear.bat? About "pear install _cannot_ break a php installation." You would'nt think so. But I can assure you that the \php\php.exe worked perfectly just before and including when I ran the \php\php go-pear.php command. After that I always got a pop-up with: The instruction at "0x01191220" referenced memory at "0x00080101". The memory could not be "Written". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program as mentioned below. Anyway, thank you again for your response and help.
