Thanks for the reference, Tomas! It's helped a bit of my understanding of
PEAR packages, but I am now running into different a problem (and maybe a
bug in the pear package manager).
From CVS, I got everything in pear/ as instructed. As a test, I then did
pear package HTML_QuickForm/package.xml while I was in ~/sandbox/pear. I
kept getting an error that pear couldn't open package.xml. It wasn't until
I went into the HTML_QuickForm directory and just did pear package
package.xml that it managed to package everything up. Just a thought, but
shouldn't it work even if you're not in the actual sub-package's directory?
(Well, that's the impression the docs gave anyway.) Anyway, it's a minor
issue, but I think it should be fixed eventually...
The other problem that I'm having now is trying to install the actual
package I just created. When I do pear install HTML_QuickForm-1.12.tgz, I
get "pear: could not open the package file:". According to the docs, this
should work, no? Incidentally, I also tried the other syntax mentioned in
the docs (pear install http://pear.php.net/get/HTTP_Upload) and that gave me
the same error. Am I missing something from my PEAR installation? I just
installed the PEAR base packages from CVS about three days ago so I think
I'm pretty up-to-date in that area.
Oh, and one last thing: is there a direct link to the Package Browser on the
PEAR site? I didn't even know it existed until I read the doc and hunted on
the PEAR site for it. Maybe a link in the top menu would be better?
