In the latest version (and cvs also) you can use:
$workbook->setVersion(8);
in order to write strings longer than 255. Beware that this is experimental
and the setVersion method will be deprecated in future versions, once BIFF7
support becomes the default.

i have got a short problem with the pear excel spreadsheet. i want to
export data from a mysql-db to excel and my problem is, how i can create
excel-columns with more than 255 characters each field.
any idea ? sorry for my bad english.
