Anyone know of better way to convert the ASCII text to html text???

Hi!
I am wondering if anyone know of a better way to convert the ASCII text
into the HTML text? It worked great in the html textarea for me but if I
tried it in a HTML Table by using the
preg_replace("/\s/",' ',$AsciiTxt) function. It doesn't fit in
and
make the table go beyond the fixed width of 100 and all of it on one line.
If I leave it alone then it fit in the table as expected but if I have 2 or
more text space then the browser only use one between characters.
So, I welcome any suggestion....
