Leonie, Nice idea. I've created my own HTML menu's that are DB driven but I'm always looking for better alternatives. I see your code example but no actual working example - or I missed it. Do you have a page setup that uses the menu or know of sites that do. I was interested in seeing what the menu's look like or possibly a site showing different styles. I was not sure if they were implemented using the lists and themeable like shown http://www.alistapart.com/articles/taminglists/ - This is what I've done for my navbar menu functions. Or are they Tabed menu using another HTML design, or DHTML menu's or what - not sure. To fill that hole, I've started up my own site at: http://mungbeans.typepad.com/pear/ I've only just started it so there isn't much there yet, but anyone is welcome to contribute. Posssibly showing some of it's flexibility or themed versions showing different styles.
