Yes you can return a Array in validate process
....
if( Validate::string($ar['name'],$val)==false){
return array('name'=>true);
}
....
in template
....
<td>
<SPAN class="error" flexy:if="errors[name]">
{_(badname)_}<br></SPAN>
<INPUT type="text" name="name" size="50">
<INPUT type="hidden" name="id">
</td>
....
