PEAR/WSDL and HTTPS question...

need help please!
the following is a snippet of my code:
$wsdl_url = 'http://ws.URL.net/dfs.asmx?wsdl';
$WSDL = new SOAP_WSDL($wsdl_url);
$client = $WSDL->getProxy();
this works fine. however, when i try to access the secure site (w/ https):
$wsdl_url = 'https://ws.URL.net/dfs.asmx?wsdl';
$WSDL = new SOAP_WSDL($wsdl_url);
$client = $WSDL->getProxy();
it seems that when I execute the last line of code above (getProxy) is when
I get the following error messages:

does anyone have a clue as to why this does not work for me?
