For the moment I am trying to get to grips with what is out there, and thought it might be nice to experiment on my own test site. Eventually I will be wanting to build some stuff to access our oracle db at work, which there is no possibility of changing. Are there problems with data types? I liked the idea of pear db because it would mean that it could access either an access version (for others at work when they are at home) or postgres version (me at home) with the change of a single line. At the moment the db is not visible to the net, and won't be until things are quite a way along. I think I understand if I turn all the portability features on, this shouldn't be a prob. I am not stuck on pear, and if there are other things out there then am more than happy to go investigating. I will have a look at smarty also. If you have any suggestions on what might be the best place to look for stuff (apart from php.net) then that would be most appreciated. Cheers Antoine ps. the idea for the beginning will be for customers to track their jobs (we do document stuff - photocopying, microfilm, scanning, destroying, ODR, etc). Eventually we will hopefully get a lot more online, like quotes, pricing, all that sort of stuff, and maybe eventually for regular customers have them interact directly with the db to cut out human contact (we are in France after all, and less work is always better ;-)) so they can do stuff 24/7. -- G System, The Evolving GUniverse - http://www.g-system.at
