Hi,
PHPDiscuss - PHP Newsgroups and mailing lists wrote:
Are you referring to utf8_encode and utf8_decode? I tried using those and they did change my text, but they turned into either question marks or an unreadable mess. No, I'm referring to using utf-8 as your page charset (Apache directive AddDefaultCharset). These functions you are trying to use are for Latin texts only, they'll mangle all non-Latin letters.
I also tried to take Justin's advice and insert the Korean text into my database manually but it is still turned into html entities. That's because your browser encodes the text. It does this because you are not using the correct charset (see above).
Also, if you created a custom textarea would you still be able to validate using Quickform?Yes. BTW, there may be some problems with utf-8 --- you may need to hack HTM_Common class a bit, see this: http://pear.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=2410
