Ok, Many thanks go out to everyone who has given me suggestions and pointers on getting Pear installed locally on my shared host. I followed the instructions on the Pear website for installing it through ftp and using the Go-pear.php installer. I eventually had to install it in my public_html space after numerous attempts in installing it outside the webspace. Well, I take that back. I was able to get it installed outside the webspace, but when it came time to try to access the web interface to manage the packages, it could not be found. I tried setting the include path both in the script and in the .htaccess file. Still no luck on that end. After installing Pear, in my public_html space, I was able to access everything, including the web package manager interface. Only now I'm running into a new issue. When I attempt to install additional packages, I receive a similar error to the following, in a popup window: downloading zip-1.0.tgz ... Starting to download zip-1.0.tgz (4,930 bytes) . . ...done: 4,930 bytes 3 source files, building could not create build dir: /var/tmp/pear-build-defaultuser/zip-1.0 Anyone experience this? Thanks much in advance! :) Jim -----Original Message----- From: Torsten Roehr [mailto:roehr@zilleon.com] Sent: Saturday, December 11, 2004 5:37 PM To: pear-general@lists.php.net Subject: [PEAR] Re: Setting up PEAR on a shared host - any advise or pointers? >Actually I take that back.. The path you set has to be a *full* system path, e.g. '/htdocs/www/includes'. And this dir has to be your remote PEAR dir so maybe you should use '/htdocs/www/includes/PEAR'. $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] will give you the full system path. Please try again.
