Hi there I posted this question 2 days ago, but I did not get a response, so here goes again. In the documentation for Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer it states that the format::setBgColor has no effect if a pattern is not applied to the cell. I don't want a pattern, but I want the cell to have a background color. Does anybody know if this is possible. If so, how and if not, why not? Cheers Louishttp://www.phpmag.net/itr/kolumnen/psecom,id,4,nodeid,207.html There were a few things that I found rather difficult to comprehend. One of these things was the |setFgColor| and |setBgColor| functions. Coming from a word processor background I assumed that |FgColor| would be the color of the text and |BgColor| would be the color of the background. Because Excel works with patterns, these functions refer to the pattern foreground and pattern background. So if you want a cell to have a specific solid background color, you should use the |setFgColor| function. Aaron
