I've got an interesting situation. I've just created a web farm of
Gentoo 2004.3 servers, each running apache 1.3.32 and PHP 5.0.3; instead
of using portage to compile and install apache and PHP, we did so
manually.
PEAR::DB runs fine.... but... I started noticing that one of my scripts,
which runs fine on my development platform (basically identical) wasn't
working on the cluster. So I tried it on the commandline on one node.
And I got a segmentation fault. I was preliminarily able to isolate the
segmentation fault to DB.
At the time, I was running 1.7.1. I downgraded to 1.6.8, which we have
running on a production server with PHP 5.0.2 and Apache 1.3.32 -- but
still received a segfault.
I tested some more, and finally isolated the issue to PEAR.php itself.
I did this by creating a dummy PEAR and PEAR_Error class to which
DB.php would link -- at that point, I received no more errors from DB,
but PEAR consistently segfaulted.
I've tried this with PEAR 1.3.5 and 1.4.0a2 -- both exhibit the issue.
To reproduce, simply run 'php -a PEAR.php' on a PHP 5.0.3 install.
I configured PHP as follows:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/php5 --with-apxs=/www/bin/apxs \
--enable-magic-quotes --with-openssl --enable-dba --enable-ftp --with-gd \
--with-gettext --with-mysql --enable-soap --enable-sockets --with-pear \
--with-tidy --with-zlib
I have confirmed the same behaviour in my development environment
(though for some reason the same script runs fine there). PHP is
compiled there with the following:
./configure --enable-cli --enable-embed --with-curl --with-fam
--enable-ftp --with-gettext --enable-mbstring --with-mcrypt \
--disable-memory-limit --with-mime-magic=/usr/share/misc/file/magic.mime \
--with-ncurses --with-openssl --with-openssl-dir=/usr --enable-pcntl \
--with-pspell --enable-soap --enable-sockets --with-tidy --with-zlib \
--with-db4 --with-gdbm --with-jpeg-dir=/usr --with-freetype-dir=/usr \
--with-t1lib=/usr --with-ttf=/usr --enable-gd-jis-conf \
--enable-gd-native-ttf --with-png-dir=/usr --with-tiff-dir=/usr \
--with-gd --with-imap --with-imap-ssl --with-mysql \
--enable-sqlite-utf8 --enable-dba --with-readline
I have two production servers, one on PHP 5.0.1 with PEAR 1.3.1 and the
other on PHP 5.0.2 with PEAR 1.3.4. The segmentation fault is not
present on either server.
I will open a bug report if need be, but I want to first see if anybody
has experienced similar issues with PEAR using PHP 5.0.3. If so, I may
simply downgrade my PHP version -- unless a patch can fix the issue.
