After coding a whole big CMS app using Xipe, I wouldn't recommend it, because:
1. We found some issues and the package is not maintained, last
release was December 2003
2. The fact that it allows PHP in the templates got the programmers
lazy and at some point we started using more PHP than it was due. So
the whole purpose of the templates (logic-vs-presentation) was getting
defeated.
My two cents: try looking into using XML/XSLT for templating. One of
the major advantages is that it's a standard. So in the long run, when
you look to hire HTML-savvy people or designers to do your templates,
it's more likely that you'll find people that know XML rather than
Xipe or any other templating engine. Even if those people come with
non-php background (shame on them! :)
Good luck with your choice and the project!
