Escaping special characters in sql

Hello everybody, My name is William. I'm new in this list, and I have been testing PEAR because I want to use it in my next software development project. I have a problem escaping special characters in the SQL's sentences... I inserted the next text in a database field: Giovanni's. In Mysql I got this: Giovanni\\\'s In Oracle I got this: Giovanni\'s How do I solve this problem? Is this a bug? Do I have to setup an specific option in the DB class??
