PEAR DB Connection question

Hey guys,
I tried to connect to a MySQL DB via DB::connect and I found that I
needed to put a database at the end of the dsn in order for it to connect.
All I wanted to do however was run the query SHOW DATABASES, and dump them
quietly. Should this require me to pick a database in order to establish a
connection or should this be changed to compensate for a user running
queries against MySQL that don't require a database?
