I recently tried installing PEAR DV using the examples in the manual. I had
one setback early on in that I had turned OFF short_open_tag but I turned
it on AFTER the PEAR install and got further. Basically, I am accessing an
Oracle 8i database and ran createTables.php and got the following:
First, every TABLE.php included the line:
var $; // ()
Which produced errors when I ran my test script. When I pulled these out, I
got (with the following .ini)...

database = oci8://name:pass@mydb.host.net:1521/web
schema_location = /usr/lib/php/DB/DataObject/achdweb/DataObjects
class_location = /usr/lib/php/DB/DataObject/achdweb/DataObjects
