Bonjour,

Hi guys, Me again! On Saturday I thought I'd installed pear on my debian box. I never got round to testing until this morning when my script told me I had a pear problem (via a db->query() error message. I do not seem to be able to run the 'pear' command. If I type 'which pear' I get /usr/local/bin/pear It's almost some OS questionType better # whereis pear But I assume it will answer the same or more If then: # pear help tells tou there's no executable pear, then you need to check your PATH in ENV: # env | grep PATH will give you your executable folders, if then /usr/local/bin is not in, you can still type: # /usr/local/bin/pear help In this case, I would guess you have some configuration to do.
Now /usr/local/bin/pear is a file, not a directory and it doesn't do anything. Yes, pear command is a file, that's ok, it's a shell script what you can see/edit as text, but it's some executable (pendant DOS are the .bat)
Typing 'more pear' gives me:
======================================================================
#!/bin/sh
# first find which PHP binary to use
if test "x$PHP_PEAR_PHP_BIN" != "x"; then
PHP="$PHP_PEAR_PHP_BIN"
else
if test "/usr/local/bin/php" = '@'php_bin'@'; then
PHP=php
else
PHP="/usr/local/bin/php"
fi
fi
# then look for the right pear include dir
if test "x$PHP_PEAR_INSTALL_DIR" != "x"; then
INCDIR=$PHP_PEAR_INSTALL_DIR
INCARG="-d include_path=$PHP_PEAR_INSTALL_DIR"
else
if test "/usr/local/lib/php" = '@'php_dir'@'; then
INCDIR=dirname $0
INCARG=""
else
INCDIR="/usr/local/lib/php"
INCARG="-d include_path=/usr/local/lib/php"
fi
fi
exec $PHP -C -q $INCARG -d output_buffering=1 $INCDIR/pearcmd.php "$@"
======================================================================
Can anyone help me solve my problem?
For info I have ssh access via PuTTY, and there is no windowing environment
on the server.
I would guess it's enough, but beware changing the server global config requires certainly you be root.
If not, you can still install / complete pear on a "local" user account, all what pear needs is/are the pear base dir, which can be server global, local ... or mixed (don't play with this last)

Depending on which sources you use, I have found many broken packages. Also, in the above example, you need to specify *which* php-pear to get, i.e. php5-pear or php4-pear. If I were you, I would install pear manually: 1. Open a terminal 2. su 3. enter password ******* 4. mkdir /usr/share/pear 5. apt-get install lynx 6. lynx -source http://go-pear.org/ | php --Paul -- PEAR General Mailing List (http://pear.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.phpCan anyone tell me how I can get PEAR sorted?1) open a terminal 2) enter this command: su - 3) enter root's password when asked 4) enter this command: apt-get install php-pear
