Well without seeing the code its kinda hard to help. Does it work for standard properties like? var_dump($LU->getProperty('auth_user_id')); var_dump($LU->getProperty('perm_user_id'));

'text' I use 'integer'. Also, the last comment of the page about synchronizing your storage container, I have no idea what they are talking about, and that may be the problem. But could somebody clarify

If you add custom properties, you also need to add them to your database. Using the install.php you can simply tell the install script to do the necessary alterations in the database for you, based on your configuration.
