The easy way to think of it, is Marc Liyanage's php build for mac os x
places everything in /usr/local/php5. So the pear command you'll want to use
is /usr/local/php5/bin/pear, and for cli /usr/local/php5/bin/php... and the
pear packages for php5 in apache are stored in /usr/local/php/lib/php
I usually delete my mac os x shipped /usr/bin/php and /usr/bin/pear and then
symbolically link /usr/bin/php (and pear) to /usr/local/php5/bin/php etc.
But remember, you'll have to do this every time an update from Apple
upgrades php. The apache webserver won't be affected after subsequent
updates from apple, just the overwritten /usr/bin/php and /usr/bin/pear.
Or, if you want to keep a cli version of php 4 around for some strange
reason you can always do that --- and whenever you want to install a pear
package for php5/apache run it directly from /usr/local/php5/bin/pear, or
pear config-set your php_dir, data_dir, docs_dir etc etc.
Thanks again for the lightning response!
