I am setting up a new Mac XServe as a production web server. However, I am having trouble with PEAR. Pear seems to be working fine, except I cannot install updates or new packages. When I try to install a new package (or update one) the daemon downloads the package then it errors out and says "No handlers for package.xml version 2.0" Can you help me get this error fixed so I can get PEAR working?
First, I would suggest using a newer version of PHP if you aren't already... Marc Liyanage's site has Mac OS X installable PHP 5 packages which will get your XServe up to php 5 instead of Apple's distributed php 4 (be sure to note which Apache version you're using... Server 10.4 by default comes with Apache 2 I believe, unless you upgraded your XServe from 10.2 or 10.3 which may mean you have Apache 1.3..?). There's also http://www.phpmac.com/ which has some great resources. But, beyond that, it looks like pear needs to be upgraded before you can handle packages with the newer, package 2 xml file. If I recall correctly... you have to upgrade Archive_Tar before you can upgrade pear on Mac OS X, so 'sudo pear upgrade Archive_Tar' then you'll be able to run 'sudo pear upgrade pear' or I would run
'sudo pear upgrade-all' and install all the updates for PEAR.
That should get pear up to the latest version. If there are any error messages you're getting, send those along and we'll see what we can help with.
