PEAR package installer failing on Auth

I get this when I try to install the Auth extension for PEAR
# pear install Auth
downloading Auth-1.1.1.tar ...
...done: 57,903 bytes
Invalid checksum : 4275 calculated, 420 expected
Any ideas? It's a brand spanking new Red Hat 8.0 box. PEAR was installed
with PHP 4.3.0.
