Hello Martin, First important note, my message is not intended to be aggressive or anything this way, but English is not my native language (I’m French) so... I’m referring to auth.php class I don’t know if these functions can’t be covered by a simple class, but they are covered by a simple set of functions. I use them on a every day basis (I PEARized the database access but I’m unable (I’m not a real developper) to PEARize the whole thing) : Have a look at : http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/tim20000505.php3 And at : http://www.phpbuilder.com/annotate/message.php3?id=1007469 The first URL with the addition of the second, make a very powerful set of functions, that does everything I noticed, is completely HTML independent, is easily extensible, is independent of the number of items you want to store when registering users, manage every thing from registration to change in the registration, manage confirmation emails, log user IP and so on... and is no more complex than the Auth.php authentication system. What I wanted to say is that especially if PEAR includes complete applications like PEAR forum it would be difficult to avoid such a layer in PEAR . I don’t know a lot of serious applications that don’t manage users. If PEAR user management is not standardized (in the sens that PEAR database access is standardized) the "application" directory will become a YAH (Yet Another HotScripts.com) directory This kind of functionality is to the user what BD.php is to the database. And a "normal" website has a database AND manages users... Luc
