How do I change the default install path (C:\PHP4) on Windows?
I first fixed the config details (pear config set ***, etc.), and then fixed
the path references in the *.reg files.
Now, I have just spent over an hour going through the [PEAR] registry files,
changing C:\PHP4 to F:\php, and then going through again correcting the
length (How unfriendly is this?).
After this, I found I had made errors in two files (DB and PEAR), and so I
reinstalled these, using
pear install DB
pear install PEAR
After this, I found that the config details had been reset to C:\PHP4, and
my list of installed packages had shrunk to just DB and PEAR.
I had lost an hour's work.
It is this sort of thing that gives systems a bad name. I don't particularly
want PEAR, but it seems I must have it for Horde. It has taken me three
weeks to get it installed on Windows. I really don't want it on my C:
drive - this is small. Why is there so much hard-coding of paths in this
system? Why can I not easily move directories from drive to drive?
