I have not really investigated 'how to' beyond adding some borders to my layouts, but you can control the layout by setting parameters just like the others. If you look at the example docs that installed with HTML_QuickForm there is one that specifically shows how that whole thing works. I 'think' it is example 3 but I am not sure, just look at the comments at the top of each and the one that does it says so.
