Writing XSLT stylesheets is a big job initially, that's for sure. But once it is done, it is done and lots of code for different applications can then be generated. I work for an organisation that is moving all their databases to MySQL, I need to build interfaces for each one and the requirements are frequently changing. The stuff I'm working on isn't designed to produce nice web pages, just basic working interfaces (or as much as possible, anyway). To be honest, I don't see an opportunity for this to become a PEAR project as it really has nothing to do with PEAR ... it is just a collection of simple XML/XSL transformation scripts. Also, I'm not really familiar with DataObjects (I joined this list for a DB related question). When I finish the scripts I'll bundle them up as a package and let this list know where to find them. -----Original Message----- From: rocha@i-node.com.br [mailto:rocha@i-node.com.br] Sent: Wednesday, 16 April 2003 2:20 PM To: Mike Hall Cc: pear-general@lists.php.net Subject: RE: [PEAR] Re: Ideal PHP framework [was: DataObject with ITX] Citando Mike Hall <mike.hall@batchelor.edu.au>: > At the moment I am using command line XSLT tools like xsltproc, but this > could all be done via a web interface down the track. > > Como le parece? I've done some test with XML/XSLT at the console sometime ago and i think it is a hell of toll to save development time. But... > > If anyone is interested, let me know, I'd like to get involved in a > PEAR/PHP project after having used it for maybe three years now. From what i understand, we can do something almost similar already within PEAR. With MDB we can go from a XML schema to database tables and then with DataObjects we create the classes to work with them. The problem is that DataObjects does care about MDB, it uses DB. So something should be done here first. And DataObjects also read the database to get the info to create the classes, it could be using the MDB XML schema too. Need to ask Alan Knowles IF that is hard to do? Maybe as an run time option? I think we have lot's of good stuff already in PEAR, and i feel too a need to have somekind of glue to make a useful framework from them ( Dont want to start THAT framework thread again, i do not think PEAR should have a PHP framework package, i dont think it is possible to do that either with the current PEAR policy). But if we at least have some minimum coordination between packages that framework could be created sinergetically, every package doing its job independently but sharing a small set of logic to permit integration into a larger context. (Its nigth and i am just dreaming...;) Having a XML/XSLT to create tables and the php classes interest me a lot, but need to know a little more of your work to understand how that can become a PEAR package ( or help that dreaming). Boa noite a todos ;) Good night to everyone S.Rocha ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ -- PEAR General Mailing List (http://pear.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
