That seemed like a very good suggestion and I tried it like this: ./configure --with-zlib --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --enable-cli ...but maybe I'm too stupid. It still doesn't work: photon [3:57pm] # pear install Mail downloading http://pear.php.net/get/Mail?uncompress=yes ... ...done: 59,904 bytes The extension 'zlib' couldn't be loaded. Probably you don't have support in your PHP to this extension Warning: rmdir() failed (Invalid argument) in /usr/local/lib/php/System.php on line 187 It would be nice if pear would install from an already-unzipped package so that zlib wasn't an absolute deal breaker. I have the source and I can copy it in by hand... MichaelWhat am I missing? A search on zlib on the lists did not yield helpful info (although I certainly could have missed something).Maybe you have installed PHP as Apache modul and PHP-CLI, but updated only the Apache Module.
