After some tracking we found out that this was the error:
In file System.php, in method tmpdir, line 407
if ($var = isset($_ENV['TMPDIR']) ? $_ENV['TMPDIR'] : getenv('TMPDIR')) {
return $var;
}
For some reason it returned an empty string, even if TMPDIR is defined in apache.conf and printed out when doing a phpinfo()
The workaround was simply to replace the row with return '/tmp';

Have installed PEAR with go-pear runned through Apache on Solaris. Installation worked fine, but when I fetching HTML_QuickForm package i get his error: could not open /HTML_QuickForm-3.0Beta2.tgz for writing It seems to me that apache has no write access in the directory where it stores the downloaded file. After checking the code, I couldn't detemine which directory is used. $download_dir is the name of the variable, but i think its empty? Do anyone have a hint?
